Food!Food!Glorious food…and…diets

Incase you never realised – I love food. Good food..food cooked with spices, herbs, coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut itself and lots of love. It is this love for food that has me thinking about it almost all the time. What to have for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks – and not just for me but for my family too.

I think it is this “obsession” that also has me freaking out about how much diet matters in relation to weight and health. Well to be honest, this and societies apparent standards of beauty. So in order to attain said healthy weight (according to my BMI of which I have little faith in by the way), I am looking at the myriad of diets available for me to come up with a reasonable, practical and realistic diet I can use.fx_too-many-choices

I am trying to come up with a criteria of what would make a good diet to follow and make it a lifestyle change…this is what I came up with:

a) It should have all the food groups – they are all important after all.  So any diets that eliminate a food group are off the list

b) 3 meals with 2 snacks or 5 meals – any works because 3 meals with two snacks = 5 meals (genius math there 🙂 )

c) Exotic (read expensive) foods are off my list. I like all types of foods but I need food that I can find any time I step into the supermarket that won’t break the bank (like blueberries…)

d) Measuring / counting calories – don’t get me wrong, I AM investing time and money into my diet. However the idea of counting/ measuring calories is beyond me. Just tell me what portion to eat (Like 1/4 plate protein, 1/4 plate starch an 1/2 plate with vegies with 2tbsps of health fats such as olive oil). That I can deal with. That is easier for me to follow.

I’m still coming up with the rules and “scouring” the internet and nutrition books for the “ultimate” meal plan…when I find it I will share. If you know of one, please let me in on that secret…

xx
